Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd will fit its planned small car with a 600cc engine in the rear, a company spokesman said on Tuesday.
The four-door car will be designed to seat 4 or 5 people and priced at Rs 1,00,000 for the base model ex-factory, he said, citing Chairman Ratan Tata's comments to reporters at the Geneva Auto Show.
Variants with extra features such as power steering will be more expensive, the spokesman said.
The car, slated for launch in 2008, will be made at a plant in West Bengal. Tata has said before trial runs of the car were already being conducted.
Italy's Fiat, which is partnering Tata Motors on passenger vehicles and trucks, has said it would provide advice on engineering and development for the small car.
