Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir's main opposition People's Democratic Party has defended a map showing parts of Jammu and Kashmir in China.

The map that PDP had brought showed both Aksai Chin and Karakoram in China.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti maintained that the party wanted to restore the prominent place to Kashmir on the ancient silk route connecting Central and South Asia.

"We have made a power-point presentation of the the silk route that existed before 1947 and we want restoration of the route that has been closed with the passage of time. We want restoration of the route from Srinagar to Leh, Leh to Yarkhand, which is in China. Similarly we want restoration of the route from Srinagar to Kargil, Kargil to Askar Du, Askar Du to Gilgit and Gilgit to Khaskar," Mufti said.

She also said that the party wants Jammu and Kashmir to again become a gateway for Central and South Asia.

The PDP had shown the map on Saturday during a 'Vision on Kashmir' power-point presentation.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah slammed the PDP for the controversial map. He said, "It is up to the PDP how they would want to clear this map. I do not think it is acceptable to anyone that part of the state's territory is gifted away like this."
