Chennai: The fanfare has died, he has taken a last look at his home for the last five years and has bid a fond farewell to all those who waited on him hand and foot.
Now, in less than 24 hours of finishing his term, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam -- for whom the term 'people's president' was coined, got a first hand feel of the most common problem faced by the common man -- a power failure.
This power failure in a guest house, where he was staying, forced the former president to pack his bags at night and move to the Raj Bhavan.
Of course, that's not a privilege that the common man has, but at least most of us have a roof over our heads -- a privilege the ex-president has not yet been given.
The bungalow Dr Kalam was to move in, in New Delhi, has still not been readied, even though it was known five years ago that he would need a house to move into by July 25.
Instead, he is going to have to spend the next few days in a small house in North Delhi, while his official residence is still being put together.
But, knowing Kalam, he will take this in his stride and turn this into an experience, another input for his vision to see a developed India by 2020.
