New Delhi: Raj Thackeray remarks against north Indians echoed in the corridors of the Supreme Court on Thursday when a petition was filed seeking direction to the Election Commission to derecognise the Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS).

An advocate Arvind Shukla filed the petition, which is likely to be mentioned on Friday before Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan for urgent hearing in the wake of large-scale violence by MNS workers against north Indians, a lawyer associated with the filing of the petition said.

The petitioner has sought directions to the Centre and the Maharashtra Government to take action against Raj Thackeray alleging that his action had endangered the integrity of the nation.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Government said it was seeking opinion of the state's Advocate General on the issue of arrest of Thackeray over his remarks.
