Petroleum Minister likely to cut fuel price

New Delhi: If Petroleum Minister Murli Deora has his way, petrol and diesel could soon become cheaper. The Minister who just doused the fuel crisis created by striking oil officers has promised a price cut of Rs 5 on petrol and Rs 3 on diesel in the next 10-15 days.

After a reduction of Rs 5 in petrol, customers in Delhi will have to shell out 40 rupees and 60 paise. In Mumbai the price will be 44 rupees and 80 paise while in Kolkata the price will be Rs 42 and in Chennai petrol will cost 44 rupees and 66 paise after the cut.

Similarly a cut of 3 rupees in diesel will bring down the prices to Rs 30 and 86 paise in Delhi, Rs 34 and 69 paise in Mumbai, Rs 31 and 74 paise in Kolkata and finally Rs 32 and 98 paise per litre in Chennai after the cut.

If this was not good enough, then Rs 25 rupees reduction on LPG is also on the cards.

The minister however cautioned that reduction would take place only if the crude prices remain at $40 per barrel.
