New Delhi: With a spring in the step, a song on the lips and the zest to paint the world in the brightest hues, India is ready to welcome the festival of colours – Holi – on March 4.

Notwithstanding the total lunar eclipse slated for the day, people across the country are busy preparing for the festival by buying gulaal (colours) and sweetmeats.

A eclipse will begin from 0300 hrs (IST) on Sunday and enter totality from 0414 hrs (IST) with the 'greatest eclipse' being at around 0450 hrs (IST) and would be visible all over India.

The eclipse would end by 0527 hrs (IST) and the moon would emerge at around 0753 hrs (IST), marking the beginning of colourful celebrations.

Kolkata – that has already begun celebrating - People of Kolkata will enjoy the first part of the partial eclipse followed by the totality.

Partial eclipse would not be visible in Kolkata since the Moon would set around 0600 hrs (IST).
