Pics: Stars go gaga over Sivaji

Chennai: Friday is the D-day for Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, the makers of his latest film Sivaji and for thousands of Rajini fans across the globe.

It's touted to be the most expensive Indian film ever but it comes as no surprise because three of Tamil cinema's biggest names – Rajinikanth, filmmaker Shankar and music director AR Rahman have come together for it.

Reportedly shot for Rs 80 crore, Sivaji, will also be released in centres like Surat, Bhiwandi, Latur and Sholapur.

Rajinikanth's last release in 2005, Chandramukhi, grossed over Rs 60 crore at the box-office and the superstar is making sure that Sivaji sees the same kind of success.

Theatres in Chennai have already run out of tickets for the first week for Rajnikant's 100th film Sivaji: The Boss as tens of thousands of people mobbed the theatres since early this week for advance booking of tickets.

The film is being released with a record 450 Tamil prints, some of which will be for the film's overseas release in the US and the UK.

CNN-IBN correspondent Prathibha Parameshwaran caught up with some major stars in Kollywood after the premiere of the film, to find out what think about the film.

“The second half is excellent. I saw MGR in Sivaji,” said director and scriptwriter P Vasu.
