New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Centre on a Public Interest Litigation that has been filed accusing Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of bribing voters.
The PIL alleges that Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh's decision to host a dinner to garner support for their presidential candidate -- now President -- Pratibha Patil, was actually a way to bribe voters.
In this case, the voters are the Members of Parliament. The Centre has to respond to the court's notice by August 29, 2007.
Meanwhile, buoyed by the Congress-led UPA alliance's massive victory in the Presidential poll, party chief Sonia Gandhi today held lengthy discussions with senor leaders on various issues like the up-coming Assembly elections in several states including Gujarat.
Gandhi, who interacted with the AICC General Secretaries for over two hours, also deliberated on the various programmes that are being undertaken to mark the 150th anniversary of the 1857 uprising and the 60th year of Independence.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes ahead of the Vice-Presidential election on August ten, a day on which the month-long monsoon session of the Parliament will commence.
