New Delhi: The crisis at the Koodankulam nuke plant in Tamil Nadu has escalated as the Centre for Public interest Litigation on Friday filed a PIL in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of the Nuclear Liability Act.
The PIL has sought a reassessment of all nuclear facilities in India and their long-term cost benefit analysis.
Meanwhile, protests took an ugly turn at the plant with the police beating up 4 disabled youth who were part of the agitation.
Protests have escalated at the nuke plant site with thousands continuing with their fasts demanding the scrapping of the project.
On Thursday, 700 protesters blocked roads and stopped 700 scientists from entering the site. Although the PM had urged Tamil Nadu chief Minister Jayalalithaa to support the plant, she said that she would go along with the locals.
