Samarjeet, a pilot with Air Deccan, was dining with his friends in a pub when a scuffle broke out between him and a man called Gaurav Sharma, a regular at the pub. The fight broke out because Gaurav Sharma and his friends molested the women with Captain Samarjeet.
Gaurav and his friends beat up Samarjeet and fractured his knee. Not satisfied with the damage they had already done, they left the pub only to return a little while later with a dozen odd men and beat up Samarjeet and his friends again.
The police, the victims allege were of little help.
Samarjeet's friend, Gursharan says, "They beat us very badly and no one came to our rescue. The police came upstairs. I pointed out who the guys were. They took away all the goons, but returned upstairs only to say that they were not at fault."
The pub manager has been arrested, but the accused are absconding.
Gurgaon ACP, Sumit Kuhar says, "We have charged the pub owners under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code."
Gurgaon hasn't been the safest of places for party goers. Just two months back, drunk men allegedly molested a woman and thrashed her pilot husband in the City Centre Mall.
On September 30, 2007, a group of bouncers thrashed two men in a parking lot and a police case was registered.
September 21, 2007, a Delhi University student escaped a bid on his life when a group of men fired at his car near a Sahara Mall pub.
The recent on Sunday night incident only proves that the Gurgaon Police has completely failed in putting a check on pubs in the area or they haven't really tried.
Even the District Magistrate made an announcement saying that pub owners must shut shops by midnight, but no one seems to be listening.
