A first timer at the Chennai Open, World No 8 David Nalbandian is determined to make a mark on Indian soil at the start of a new year. The Argentine, whose birthday falls on January 1, spoke to CNN-IBN's Roma Khanna about his new goals and new resolutions.
Roma Khanna: Welcome to CNN-IBN and wishing you a very happy birthday David. What are the New Year resolutions? Is winning a Grand Slam in 2007 going to be one of the birthday gifts for yourself?
David Nalbandian: Thank you very much. I am very happy to be here and it is my first time outside my home this week. I will try my best this week and prepare well for Australian Open.
Roma Khanna: You have never won a Grand Slam. Does it put pressure on you?
David Nalbandian: No, it is not the pressure. I feel that I have been close very close all the times but could never make it. I will try this year for at least one.
Roma Khanna: After the Australian Open comes the Davis Cup. So do you think that they are too close for you?
David Nalbandian: It's incredible when you play for your country. There is the entire country behind you and it is great.
Roma Khanna: David you ended 2006 as world No 8. In 2005 you were sixth. So are you a bit disappointed with 2006 or are you happy with your performances.
David Nalbandian: No. I have been No 3 also during the year. So I don't really mind how high I am at the end of the year. But of course I will try to be more on top.
Roma Khanna: Thank you David.
David Nalbandian: Thanks.
