New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returned from his nine-day trip to the United States of America and Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday night.
Singh's long tour is being called a productive one by his officials.
Following Singh's personal intervention US President Barack Obama directed a Federal Bureau of Investigation team be dispatched to Delhi to communicate Indian officials of what they have learned from Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives David Coleman Headley and Tawwahur Rana.
Even though the US justice system did not permit Indian officials to get access to Headley and Rana, who are suspected to have been planning attacks against India and Denmark, Obama took the decision after Prime Minister's personal intervention and directed that a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI ) team be dispatched to Delhi to communicate Indian officials of what they have learned from the Lashkar duo.
The FBI will tell the Indian officials not just about the plans of Headley and Rana for future terror attacks perhaps in India but also their links to the Mumbai terror attacks and perhaps also their backing if any in the Pakistani establishments..
"The President (Barack Obama) promptly said that they are seized of the matter and we are willing to fully cooperate with whatever information is available. He said he will be sending a high-level team from the United States with all the data that they have been able to obtain and it will be presented to the Indian authorities within a week's time," National Security Advisor MK Narayanan.
Moreover, Singh was able to practically conclude the Indo-Canadian nuclear deal after a meeting with Prime Minister Steven Harper in Port of Spain where they were for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Singh also met other world leaders on climate change including French President Nicolas Sarkozy who was a special guest at CHOGM and the Danish Prime Minister Lars Rasmussen.
Both Sarkozy and Rasmussen asked Singh to attend the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit in December.
Speaking to reporters Singh said that he would consider their request coupled with that of President Obama to attend the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit.
Singh may consider to be in Copenhagen for the Climate Change Summit to add India's voice to the voice of the developing world.
