New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his reforms team met corporates and looked at ways of collaborating to give India better infrastructure, which includes roads, airports and ports.
"It's difficult, but it needs to be done," said the Prime Minister. Dr Singh and his team pointed at infrastructure as fundamental to sustained economic growth.
"Infrastructure financing would be the perfect solution provided the Government bridges over some of the difficulties associated with such investments," Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said.
The Prime Minister also voiced his concern about India's power sector. "We cannot hope to be an economic power unless we provide basic necessity like electricity," he said.
But the Prime Minister was upbeat about the health of the Indian economy. And if the recent 'for and against' debate on the SEZs left industry a little jittery about whether the UPA mould move ahead on policy issues, this was the Prime Minister's opportunity to clear all doubts.
He promised a transparent and competitive bidding system in infrastructure and a speedy dispute resolution mechanism.
