PM condemns Maoist attack on Jharkhand MP

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday condemned the Maoist attack on former Jharkhand Speaker and MP Inder Singh Namdhari and expressed relief that he was safe.

Singh expressed his deepest condolences to families of eight persons, including six policemen, who were killed when Maoists on Saturday attacked Namdhari's convoy in Latehar district.

"Prime Minister condemns attack on Inder Singh Namdhari in Jharkhand. He expresses relief that Namdhari escaped and is safe," a PMO spokesman said.

The Maoists triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) blast and then opened fire on the security vehicle which was following Namdhari's car at Ladu More in the district.

Eleven policemen, including assistant sub-inspector Bhim Tudu, and one civilians were killed in the attack.
