New Delhi: It was the first time the Prime Minister of the country was not there to attend the Republic Day parade. Dr Manmohan is recovering after a heart surgery in AIIMS and doctors say hes doing fine.

Ideally it would have been Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who would have led the nation in paying tribute to India's soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, but instead it was Defense Minister AK Antony.

The PM had to watch the parade on TV from his room at AIIMS where he is recovering from a bypass surgery. The PM had wanted to postpone his operation till after January 26 but his doctors advised him against it.

He underwent his second bypass surgery two days before Republic Day.

On Monday doctors said that the PM was making excellent progress in his recovery and that He sat up this morning and ate semi solid food. Doctors also said that several of his invasive monitoring lines had been removed and that he was undergoing physiotherapy to help him in his movement.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister was not short of good wishes, one even coming from US President, Barack Obama.

Very few could actually make a personal visit due to doctors restrictions. Apart from his family, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Montek Singh Alhuwalia were the only ones allowed an audience with the PM.

As India celebrated its 60th Republic Day, the entire nations prayers were with the Prime Minister who is recovering from a bypass surgery. Doctors have also told us that the PM is eager to resume work as early as possible.
