New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will begin his two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir today. He is scheduled to inaugurate the Baglihar power project in Doda on Friday afternoon.

PM will first arrive at the Udhampur Ait Force base and then fly to Doda for the inauguration.

This is the second power project to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister in the state. The Baghlihar project has an initial capacity of 450 Megawatts.

Once completed, it is expected to meet one third of the state's total power requirement. The project though has been marred by controversies since its inception in 1992.

Pakistan believes that the construction of the Dam power project built over river Chenab is a violation of the Indus water treaty.

Security has been beefed up as the separatists have given a call for a “civil curfew" to coincide with the PM's visit to the Kashmir valley.

Singh is also expected to flag off the valley's first train service - 14 years after it was first planned. It will connect Baramulla in north Kashmir to Qazigund in south Kashmir. It will be some years before the Kashmir valley gets a railway connection with the rest of India, though.
