PM to meet Lalu, Mulayam over women's bill

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav Tuesday morning over the Women's Reservation Bill, which was blocked in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

"The PM will meet Lalu Prasad, Mulayam Singh and Sharad Yadav at 9.30 a.m. Tuesday, before parliament starts the day's business," Congress party sources told IANS.

However, party sources said there is no time frame for the all-party meeting, which was proposed earlier.

The Congress Core Committee, which also met here, however, is yet to come out with a clear statement whether the bill will be passed after a discussion in the Rajya Sabha or not.

The bill seeks to reserve a third of the seats in parliament and state legislatures for women.

The members of RJD and SP were leading the opposition against the bill and were successful in blocking it in the Rajya Sabha Monday.
