New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called an emergency meeting of security agencies but Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil has not been invited.
Manmohan not inviting Shivraj Patil for such a high-level meeting is being seen as a sign that the Home Minister's position has become very weak in Cabinet with even Congress leaders joining the allies and opposition parties in criticising him following the spate of terror attacks across the country.
The meeting has been convened to assess the situation following the coordinated terror attack in Mumbai that began on Wednesday night and was finally brought to an end on Saturday morning after NSG commandos killed the terrorists holed up in the Taj Hotel.
However, Home Ministry issued a clarification on Patil's absence in the meeting claiming the reason for the Home Minister not being at the meeting is that the Prime Minister had asked him to look into certain other issues related to Mumbai terror attacks.
Patil was not present in the meeting with NSG that took place on Saturday morning too.
The Prime Minister has also called for all-party meeting on Sunday to discuss the Mumbai terror attacks.
Meanwhile, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be meeting on Saturday evening.
