PM unlikely to announce free cellphone scheme for BPL: Sources

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is is unlikely to announce the proposal of free cellphone and talk time for all below the poverty line. According to the sources, the scheme may not see the light of day.

PMO sources told CNN-IBN that they are not keen to go ahead with it in Prime Minister's Independence day speech.

Reports had suggested that ahead of the 2014 general elections, the government was planning the Rs 7,000 crore cellphone scheme.

Reports had said the scheme, Har Hath Mein Phone, was expected to be announced by the Prime Minister on August 15.
