Attari: A farmer from Gah village, the ancestral village of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Pakistan's Chakwal district, crossed over from the Wagah-Attari border into India.
The visitor Raja Ali Mohammed who claims to have studied primary school with the Indian Prime Minister hopes to meet him in New Delhi after a gap of almost seventy years.
Raja Ali, who fondly calls his friend Mohana was sent an invitation letter by Manmohan Singh.
"His uncle was in the dry-fruit business. I remember he would get dry fruits with him to school. I used to take them from him. Once the teacher called me and told me off. This one memory has always remained with me,” says Raja ali.
Raja Ali crossed over the border from Pakistan, carrying emotional memories for his friend, water and soil from their village in Pakistan, a pair of Punjabi juttis (traditional shoes) and a couple of photo-frames to remember the times before partition broke their friendship.
“The Multans stated that he was from one place or another, while the Pindi inhabitants said that he was from somewhere else. But, we were the ones who had real proof as to where he was really from,’ says Raja Ali.
However, the question Raja Ali wants answered now is whether Manmohan Singh will visit his native village when he visits Pakistan.
