New Delhi: Not all are happy with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's brand of economics. Former Professor in the London School of Economics, and well-known economist Lord Meghnad Desai says that he finds the PM's approach to reforms dodgy, though he believes Manmohan Singh's intentions are not.
Lord Meghnad Desai talked to CNN-IBN’s Karan Thapar about India’s economic reform process and what he feels India must do to chart a faster pace of growth.
Lord Meghnad Desai: Team Manmohan believes in reform, but team Manmohan operates in a coalition context.
I think they are trying to do it in a subtle way. You know, in a British playground - you have something called Dodge 'Ems. When you are in a Dodge 'Em car, all your effort is towards avoiding collision with another person.
Karan Thapar: And that is what Manmohan Singh is caught up doing!
Lord Meghnad Desai: That is exactly what Manmohan Singh has been doing. He is trying his best, and suddenly a big beast like DMK comes and his whole strategy has been to do it stealthily, quitely - he doesn't want to raise fear of change among people.
He knows where he is going, but can he get there the way he want to?
