Chennai: It's natural for siblings of the Indian politician to have political aspirations, and Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi was no different.

Her political dream is now official - she's the party's nominee for the Rajya Sabha.

However, the patriarch just stopped short of giving her a ministerial berth, at least for the moment. "There are already thirteen DMK members in the ministry beyond this there is no room for another," he said.

Better known for her poetry, Kanimozhi is Karunanidhi's youngest daughter. She hit the headlines when she organised Chennai Sangamam - a folk arts event in the city in February 2007.

Soon, she made clear her political ambitions and said she wanted to graduate from poetry to politics. She will now be groomed to be the party's face in New Delhi

"I will continue to do what I have been doing. Any tips from your father on how to handle New Delhi? Not as yet but I am sure I'll get some," she says.

After the split between the Marans and Karunanidhis, Kanimozhi's nomination had the backing of her brothers M K Stalin and M K Azhagiri. Her entry into the Rajya Sabha has now taken the DMK's dynasty politics one step further.
