CISF at Delhi airport, chase car post gunshot

New Delhi: The news about gunshots being heard at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport has added to the apprehensions of the citizens who are already in a state of shock and alarm following the last week's attacks in Mumbai.

Gunshots were heard at the Indira Gandhi International airport early Friday morning. Firing was heard outside gate no four of the departure lounge at around 1:15 am. No casualties have been reported and authorities claim no one has required any medical aid.

This has created a scare as there have already been intelligence reports warning of a possible terror strike at major airports across the country.

After the gunshots an alarm was raised, following which the security has been stepped up.

In a separate incident following the gunshots, a white Qualis car tried to approach the arrival terminal from the wrong side.

It also sped past the security check at the exit gate. Reports also suggest that the man driving the qualis may have fired the gunshots.

All exit gates were immediately closed and intensified searches were launched. The arrival and departure of flights was temporarily suspended following the incident.

And DG CISF,Udayan Banerjee who also spoke to CNN-IBN said that situation at the airport was normal and under control.

"One car sped past from here. We even tried chasing it but it managed to give us the slip. Passage was easy for it as the road has no blocks and we flashed the message about it to Haryana police and Delhi police. We could not take down the number quickly enough at that time but the make of the car is a Qualis. Our people saw one single person driving the car," said DG CISF Udayan Banerjee.

Two sounds were heard on the city side of the airport which did sound like gunfire.

But after intensive checking, the police have found no eyewitnesses to the firing nor have they recovered any bullets or cartridges.

The airport operations are back to normal.
