Mumbai: As Mumbai prepares for the Judgement Day of the much-awaited 1993 Mumbai blasts case, the city police remain on the edge fearing the worst.

Check-posts, gun-toting policemen and CCTV cameras are seen in every nook and cranny of Mumbai.

The city has already been on high alert and with all eyes on the TADA court's verdict Mumbai Police is not taking any chances.

More than 2,500 policemen will be on the city's roads just to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. So, safety is not just another buzzword in Mumbai at the moment.

"This is something which was anticipated and not come out of the blue. Last time also we had upgraded the entire security and the law and order in the force,” Joint CP, Law and Order, Mumbai Police, Arup Patnaik said.

Navpada, a cluster of slums in the heart of the city, home to almost 40 of those accused in the blasts, is also on high alert.

While there may not be any visible checks, police sources say that hundreds of plain clothed policemen have mingled with the general population to keep a close track of events.

"We will also be deploying our force in sensitive areas," Patnaik said.

And adding to the already building trepidation, the recent blasts in Malegaon have left the Mumbai Police edgy but they are still hopeful that the city will maintain its composure.
