Indore: Three days after a young man bled to death inside a police station, his family and the police are caught in a blame game. The incident occurred after Ravi Dangi was stabbed for taking on the molesters and the police allegedly took about 40 minutes to complete the paper work before taking him to a doctor.
If the Indore Police are to be believed, Ravi Dangi after being stabbed was made to wait for not more than 10 minutes at Indore's Rajendra Nagar Police Station to lodge a complaint.
A notice on its website www.indorepolice.org while giving a clean chit to its own, has based its inference on a telephone call made by the main accused Sanju to an individual named Sonu minutes after he stabbed Dangi. The police claim the victim's family was lying about the timing of the incident; something the family has strongly refuted.
"The victim first went home after he was stabbed. He was not brought to the police station immediately. If a person is injured, will you take him to a hospital or police station? The police are not at fault," IG Anuradha Shankar said.
Ravi, along with his friend, had taken on a bunch of men who tried to molest his sister. The group managed to stab him and flee. Dangi tried to protect her modesty. A 'Rakhi' brother, he had intervened after this school-going girl protested against being harassed by four youths.
"For the past two years I used to tie him Rakhis. I complained to him about the four youths who were harassing me. I did not complain to my parents as I thought they would stop me from going to school," the girl said.
Dangi's death has raised pertinent questions on police apathy and insensitivity, leading the NHRC to serve a notice to the state government.
The Congress too targeted the state government on deteriorating law and order. Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, said, "Action should be immediately taken against the guilty officers."
With surprising alacrity the Indore Police have managed to absolve themselves of all responsibility of Ravi Dangi's death which took place in their territory. Instead, they have blamed the victim's family for his death.
