Noida: Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday rescued the Personal Assistant of Noida Authority CEO Mohinder Singh from the clutches of his kidnappers after a brief gunbattle in Noida.
The Personal Assistant, Shankar Dutt, was kidnapped from near his residence and his abductors demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
A team of Noida police tracked the kidnappers and intercepted them. According to the police the kidnappers opened fire on the police force and in the ensuing gunbattle that lasted 15 minutes, all the three were killed.
"The vehicle was traced. There was firing from the criminals when they were asked to stop. Then police fired in self defence and three of the criminals got injured. They were shifted to the hospital where they were declared dead. Shankar who was kidnapped yesterday (Tuesday) has returned safely. It is a very good work by Noida police," said Senior Superintendent of Police AK Singh.
A couple of 9mm pistols and a country made weapon has been recovered from the encounter site. Two of them have been identified as Shekhar Sharma and Mohammad Wasim while the identity of the third is yet to be ascertained.
The gunbattle took place between 0430 hrs IST and 0500 hrs IST on Wednesday morning in Phase II police station area of Noida's Sector 88.
