New Delhi: Election Commission is to meet again on Wednesday to discuss what action to be on the CD and while BJP took to the streets in Lucknow, Congress, BSP and Jan Morcha want the BJP to be de-recognised.
Consolidation of Hindu votes - this is exactly the response the BJP was looking forward to.
Only the police refused to play and said they wouldn't arrest the BJP president, Rajnath Singh and former deputy chief minister Lalji Tandon, the two named in the Election Commission's FIR.
The police said they had no evidence. The BJP lashed out at Nirvachan Sadan.
BJP leader L K Advani said, “There is no issue with CD. They need excuse to throw out BJP from Indian politics.”
Though the top BJP leaders wanted to court arrest, the police were not willing to play along.
The Election Commission heard out the complainants. Jan Morcha, BSP and Congress all pleaded for de-recognition of the BJP for its blatant violation of the Representation of People's Act.
Congress leader Kapil Sibal said, “We want a CBI probe and de-recognition of these parties.”
The BJP pleaded for more time. They said that had already explained they had nothing to do with the CD.
Even as EC has to take a decision, political parties are trying to extract maximum political mileage.
For the BJP, it’s an opportunity to talk of victimisation while others are hoping to attract the minority votes.
