New Delhi: As TADA court called curtains on the 1993 Mumbai blasts trial, questions have also been raised about justice, or the lack of it, in the 1992-1993 riots case.
While the Srikrishna Commission - instituted to probe the causes of the communal riots that crippled Mumbai from December 1992 to January 1993 - submitted its report, it has not been implemented.
The riot victims have largely been denied justice till date.
Now, former attorney general Soli Sorabjee says that no implementation of the Srikrishna Commission's recommendations was scandalous. In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN’s Karan Thapar on Devil’s Advocate, Sorabjee said it was simply political clout which saved many of the 1992 Mumbai riots accused.
Soli Sorabjee: I think it's scandalous that the recommendation made by Justice Srikrishna report have not yet been fully implemented, and have not been pursued with the energy which they should have. The matter has come up in the Supreme Court and it has asked the state of Maharashtra as to what is doing.
Karan Thapar: Do you get the feeling that India responds differently to those accused of bomb blasts very differently to the way it responds to those accused of riots?
Soli Sorabjee: I won't say that Karan, it's all about the personalities involved in the Srikrishna Commission report I think. That's the reason they don't want to take action against the persons indicted.
Catch the former attorney general talk about Sanjay Dutt's sentencing and the options that the actor has before him on Devil's Advocate on Sunday, 2030 hrs (IST). The transcript will be available on IBNLive.com
