New Delhi: As the nation goes to the polls, netas embrace technology to garner votes.
Earlier election campaigns were held on roads. They were noisy but bearable.
The present day electioneering has invaded our world through social networking route.
IT Cell, BJP, Convenor Prodyut Bora says, “We have corporate email, instant messengers, VOIP, email to fax, fax to email, everything that is today called unified communications.”
It's is cutting edge technology but the with a dash of Indian twist.
Five thousand years ago, we invented the caste system. Our netas have just re-invented it. They use software to classify people by their caste, gotra, religion, language.
The software scans the electoral roll and uses the surname to classify people. Once the identification of all the Brahmins, Muslims, Yadavs etc in a region is done, the database to are sold to a neta. It lets them concentrate on those people specifically as a vote bank.
How did your neta get your phone number? From illegal CD's sold in bulk in the gray market, a CD costs just Rs 10,000.
Then they go to these sites. For just 500 rupees, they'll send their poll message to 5000 people in one shot.
In case you know the number these messages come from then you can get it blocked by using free software known as Blacklist or by calling your service provider.
Most of the times the number these messages come from is not known. In that case, you can only do one thing, simply switch off your mobile
