Lucknow: The spat between Mayawati and Central government continues this time over Haj. About 400 Haj pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh were not able to go to Haj because the visas they needed and permissions were not in place. Mayawati thinks it is the centre at fault.
Targeting the Congress and Samajwadi party's traditional Muslim vote bank, Mayawati is projecting herself as the real champion of the Muslim cause.
And the stranded Haj pilgrims in Lucknow have given her more ammunition against the centre the state government has blamed the External Affairs ministry and centre for this.
“External Affairs ministry and central Haj committee is responsible for the worse situation,” says Mayawati.
Centre fixes the quota for those who can make the Haj yatra.and each state has its own quota the central Haj committee draws the rules for the yatris and it is this yatra which is often used by political parties to push their interests.
Mayawati and the centre have been at loggerheads. First the stay on rail coach factory in Sonia's constituency of Rae Bareili, then Rahul facing obstacles during his tour of Kanpur and now its the Haj yatris who are caught in this battle for turf between the political parties.
