Bangalore: The first phase of polling is over in Karnataka and this included 89 seats in the old Mysore region - nearly half of the constituencies are urban ones where a keen fight to wrest power is on between the Congress and the JD(S).
Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy says, “I don't want to be King-maker. I want to be King.”
An optimistic H D Kumaraswamy after voting in the Karnataka election a critical one for his party, the JD(S). His opponent, former chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde's daughter Mamta Nichani who's banking on her father's legacy.
Congress candidate against Kumarswamy Mamta Nichani says, “The fact that I'm the daughter of Ramakrishna Hegde. He did a lot of things for the people and they expect me to do the deliver too.”
The old Mysore region was a stronghold of the JD(S) in the last election in 2004, but the party's fortunes could change thanks to a lot of party hopping that we've seen in the last couple of months.
The JD(S) own party men have shifted to other parties and the BJP is riding a sympathy wave after JDS denied it the Chief Ministership last year.
Then there are Congress heavyweights like S M Krishna, Ambarish and Siddaramaiah who are hoping to put the brakes on the JD(S) run.
In Bangalore, where the number of Assembly seats have doubled after delimitation, the congress claims it reigns supreme.
But the JD(S) insists it could manage a 'surprise' ten seat haul.
