Mumbai: The political battle for votes in Maharashtra is getting a musical touch. Thanks to some reality TV singers, political parties in the state are hoping to send the votebanks swelling as the singers swing into action for the Shiv Sena and MNS.
Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant who sang his way to people's hearts by winning votes from the public for his performance, has added some saffron tones to his music. Sawant, who has recently joined the Shiv Sena feels his popularity as a Maharashtrian face will draw in the youth.
"I am the first artist who was made popular solely by public votes so now I want to give back to the society," said Abhijeet Sawant to CNN-IBN.
Not to be left out of the orchestra, the MNS has roped in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner Vaishali Bhaisane-Made. Vaishali struck the right note of the Marathi cause.
"There are many who can balance music and political career and I think I can do that too," promised Vaishali Made.
"While the public promptly picked up their phones to vote for these singers as reality show contestants, when it comes to voting for them as politicians, it seems it is a different matter altogether," expressed some.
"We voted for them at that time as contestants, but in politics they dont have any track record," was another argument.
"See talent is different but politics is not something I think they can do much in," the public seems in no mood to turn TV reality show popularity into political victory.
Some categorically say, "I dont think I will vote for them." There is an exceptional tone like - "Lets see hope for the best, maybe Abhijeet Sawant."
Only the results will show who wins the musical face-off in the campaigns.
