Postal dept roped in for voter I-cards in Hyd

Hyderabad: The Election Commission in Hyderabad has tied up with the local postal department for faster creation and despatch of voter ID cards.

The Commission has signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh state postal department to facilitate speedy delivery of electoral photo I cards

Subba Rao, the state's Chief Electoral Officer said, "The idea is to demystify the process for the citizens & make it more user friendly."

For now all one needs is to fill the voter I-card form & attach a residence proof along with two passport photographs before dropping it into any of the drop boxes kept at the post offices.

The Commission promises that within four weeks the Electoral photo I card will be delivered at your doorstep.

"For people like us who really don't have much time because of office hours et, this is really beneficial," said Swapna, a citizen.

1200 postmen have been trained & roped in to assist in this process.

They will now assist in verifying details and also in delivering the voter I cards.

The election commission has plans of replicating this pilot project in other parts of the state as well.
