BANGALORE:  Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contract pourakarmikas with East zone, who were on protest for the past two days will resume work from Friday.
On Thursday, more than 300 contract pourakarmikas staged a protest for more than four hours at BBMP head office demanding payment of wages for the month of May. When no officials came forward, they started marching towards the main building where police stopped them. This created chaos between the police and pourakarmikas.
However, it was resolved when Deputy Mayor L Srinivas met them and assured that their salaries will be disbursed through cheque by the end of the month.
One of the pourakarmika who was on protest said that BBMP had assured them that  minimum wages notified by the state government will be disbursed through cheques. “However, till date, the salaries have not been disbursed. How can we manage our households without any wages?” he questioned.
