New Delhi: Finance Minster Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said that that he would not comment on the 2G note until he discussed it with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Finance Ministry note obtained through an RTI suggested that P Chidambaram, as finance minister, failed to prevent the 2G scam.
The Finance Minister is also expected to brief the media on the developments so far in the 2G scam case.
"The Prime Minister is outside India. I would not like to make any comment on the Finance Ministry note which has been placed before the court obtained through RTI application. The Prime Minister is coming back this evening. I am going back to Delhi tomorrow. After talking to the Prime Minister if anything needs to be told in respect with the Finance Ministry's note which is obtained through RTI, I will make any comment," Pranab said in Kolkata.
The Prime Minister will be returning from the United States on Tuesday evening.
MoS in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) V Narayanaswamy, who met Pranab on Monday night, also refused to comment on the issue. He said that it was a routine meeting and since the matter was in court, it was not appropriate to comment on it right now.
"The Prime Minister is arriving today. Pranab Mukherjee will comment after meeting the Prime Minister. The matter is in court, it is not appropriate to comment on it," said Narayanaswamy.
