New Delhi: Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee was in high in spirits as he described the rich cultural heritage of India to at least 25 diplomats from various countries during the valedictory function of the Foreign Diplomats Programme in the Capital.
But on the sidelines of this formal dinner, the Foreign Minister did not miss the opportunity to set the agenda for the upcoming Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary level talks.
"I would like that they should stick to the assurances they have given," says Mukherjee.
Although contours of the Indo-Pak joint terror mechanism discussed in Havana are yet to be worked out, the Minister admitted that India was in no hurry to share any information with Pakistan on the ISI links to the recent blasts in Mumbai.
"In course of discussions, we will find out what could be the joint consultative (sic) mechanism to deal with terrorism. Sharing of information and other things will follow after the establishment of the Institution," says Mukherjee.
With anumber of recent terror attacks in India being traced to Pakistan, talks of countering terror will be bit of a sore issue when the foreign secretaries meet next week. However, it would be interesting what the Pakistani defence is.
India wants Pakistan to stick to the assurances given earlier on the issue of terrorism and the statement from the MEA is crucial as it comes at a time when the Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary level talks are just a few days away.
