Prayer ceremony for Gujarat bus accident victims

New Delhi: Heart-rending scenes were seen at a prayer ceremony held in a Vadodara school which lost the maximum number of students on Wednesday’s bus accident.

All the students and teachers of Nav Jivan Vidyalaya turned up to condole the deaths.

Children from Nav Jivan Vidyalaya were among the 41 school students who died on Wednesday after their bus fell into the Narmada canal in rural Vadodara.

Most of them were 8th and 9th standard students on their way to take their annual exams.

Apart from the students, three others - the driver of the bus, the conductor and a woman were also dead.

So far four children have been rescued. The canal where the Gujarat State Transport Corporation bus fell is about 20 feet deep.

There were 61 people on board that bus.

The state government has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to the families of the dead.
