Prayers cut short for Hyd blast victims

Hyderabad: It was a regular visit to the local mosque for Friday prayers for the many who are now fighting for life at the Osmania hospital in Hyderabad. Among the more than 40 people injured are many young boys, some of whom were visiting the mosque for the first time.

For Salima Bi, who is praying for son's life, Friday's prayers turned into a horror tale. Her son Salman is missing and her second son, Gaus was injured in the blast that rocked the Mecca Masjid.

The two brothers had gone for the first time to offer jumma (Friday) prayers.

All Salima Bi now keeps repeating over and over again is, "Please someone look for my son."

As Salima bi pleads for help, five-year-old Gaus's eyes search for his elder brother. He strongly feels that Salman is around somewhere in the hospital.

"My brother has been brought to the Osmania Hospital," says he.

It's a similar scene everywhere at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad, where victims of the blast have been admitted. Photographs of lost relatives are being circulated, though there are some stories of lucky survival.

Among them is Taufeeq, who is new to the city and has no one to help him.

"I dont have anybody here. My parents are in Kolkata," says he.

Twelve-year-old Taufeeq had left Kolkata only eight days ago, for a job here. But now his dream of supporting his parents will take some more time to realise.

His injuries will heal in time, but will the fear heal?

Taufeeq's and Gaus' prayers at the Mecca Masjid were cut short by a tragic twist of fate in the form of a bomb blast. Today, all our prayers are with them and others hit the blasts.
