Pune: In yet another case of road rage, a six-month pregnant woman and her husband were on Wednesday badly beaten up by bus drivers near Pune.

The couple was going to Shivapur, a religious place near Pune, when a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus driver overtook their tempo near the Katraj bus depot. The driver then, along with the bus conductor, allegedly kicked Jyoti Salunke in the stomach following an argument with her husband.

“The bus driver, the conductor and another person in the bus hit me on one side of my stomach after which I started feeling giddy,” Jyoti said.

However, the group of bus drivers, who allegedly beat the Salunkes, has blamed the family for starting the fight.

"I didn't do anything. The tempo driver came up to me and held me by my collar. He started beating us up. We told him to stop but he wouldn't stop," PMPML driver Sunil Tambile said.

The PMPML authorities say they will take strict actions against those who attacked their employees.

"Our drivers and our conductors work in very stressful conditions. Attacks on our drivers and workers happen very frequently. So we will take legal actions against such people," MD PMPML Subrao Patil said.

Members of the Salunke family and the PMPML drivers have lodged FIRs against each other.

Meanwhile, Jyoti's doctors say her condition is stable and her foetus safe.

“Jyoti was examined by our gynaecologists and surgeons, and she was found to be absolutely stable. Her pregnancy is safe and her state is absolutely stable," Director Bharati Hospital Dr Shahji Deshmukh said.
