Jaipur: Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan, who was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Jaipur International Film Festival today, said that there was a need to make archives to preserve the history of cinema at both national and international levels.

"If you really want to do something for Indian cinema, preserve its history. It is important to preserve the history for tomorrow... for the future generation, and I am always there to help for this," said Bachchan, who was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the festival here this evening.

She also said that there was no need to set up a film city in Rajasthan as suggested by some in the industry.

"In Rajasthan, I do not think there is a requirement of a film city. Let filmmakers come and shoot the beauty of the state," she said.

The 63-year-old actress also mentioned the work of Rubaiyat Hossain, the young director of Bangladeshi movie 'Meherjaan' dealing with the anguish of women in that country.

Bachchan, who is a part of the film's cast, said that it was tough for Hossain to make the movie which was aimed at highlighting violence on women and it was very sad that her work was strongly opposed in her country.
