New Delhi: The Left Front will wait for the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance to officially announce its candidate for the President poll before taking a decision, sources said on Friday. Sources said that the Left Front would announce its stand on June 21 after a formal meeting of the Communist leadership.

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam's candidature is not favoured by the Left parties and they would oppose him. They also dismissed former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma, saying the Nationalist Congress Party was not a serious contender.

Left sources said that they don't want to be seen on the same side as Mamata Banerjee and and oppose Pranab, who is from West Bengal.

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam\'s candidature is not favoured by the Left parties and they would oppose him.

However, the sources added that it was not the Left Front's responsibility to bail out the Congress-led UPA from any difficulty on the issue as a key constituent, the Trinamool Congress, was not in favour of the UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee.
