President poll: PA Sangma files nomination

CNN-IBN | Updated Jun 28, 2012 at 04:37pm IST

New Delhi: The NDA's Presidential candidate PA Sangma on Thursday filed his nomination papers in the presence of senior leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Subramanian Swamy.

Also present for the event were Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik and SAD Chief Parkash Singh Badal.

The UPA's presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee filed his nomination papers earlier in the day.

Going by the numbers, Pranab is likely to win the contest.

However, Sangma has maintained that victory or loss would not have any effect on him as his candidature is primarily an assertion of his rights as the citizen of India, a tribal and a north-eastern.
