New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil would walk the red carpet to the Central hall at 1100 hours (IST) in the Parliament to make the opening speech for the Budget session on Monday morning.

The NDA leaders are finetuning their strategy to corner the Government and top on the agenda is the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

BJP Deputy Leader RS S S Ahluwalia said, "We will give adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha for February 23 and also in Rajya Sabha a motion to suspend question hour."

The price rise is an issue over which the NDA is hoping to rally.

Even the Left parties and some UPA allies like the Samajwadi Party, is also planning to corner the Government on internal security issues like Naxal violence and Pune blasts and even insisting on a statement by Prime Miister himself before the resumption of Indo-Pak talks later this week.

A separate discussion is being demanded on recent cabinet decision to reduce fertilizer subsidy.

Treasury benches are on a backfoot .especially over escalating prices, they are willing to talk. Indications are that the discussion on inflation could precede even the vote of thanks on the presidential address.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said, "We hope they will not disrupt the house."

Budget session is the most important and the longest session of Parliament. Both general and railway budget would be presented in the first week itself.

Other legislative business would follow later and for a Government which lacks a clear majority in the Rajya Sabha, it may at times have to take the opposition into confidence to get some pending statutes passed.
