New Delhi: On October 30 the Delhi High Court ruled, "He is a threat to society and, therefore, deserves the harshest punishment.”
A six-year-long trial ended with a much-welcomed verdict to hang Santosh Singh, who was convicted of killing law student Priyadarshini Mattoo.
However, the troubles of Priyadarshini's friends are far from over.
“On September 2, I was crossing the road around 7:15 pm to 7:30 pm (IST), two guys on a bike came and stopped me saying, ‘bahut TV per aane ka shauk hai (You like being on TV).’ I don’t have any other enemy,” says Indu Jalani, Priyadarshini’s’ friend.
Jalal has been an active member of the justice for Priyadarshini group. She has played a crucial role in mobilising public support. The threat to her life has got police into action.
"I have asked the police to place constables as security guards and a gunner till then assure proper action is taken,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, Piyush Mordia says.
Indu Jalali registered a complaint with the Ghaziabad Police on November 4, more than 10 days later, the police are yet to get any leads in the case.
