Probe against ex-CJI's son-in-law starts

CNN-IBN

Thiruvananthapuram: The investigation against former chief justice of India KG Balakrishnan's son-in-law PV Srinijan by the Kerala Home Department began on Tuesday. Home Department officials visited Srinijan's residence for preliminary inquiry into allegations levelled against him for amassing wealth worth crores of rupees which are disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan sent a letter ordering the enquiry to Home Minsiter Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Balakrishnan forwarded the letter to the state Home Secretary instructing him to start the investigation.

In more trouble for the former chief justice of India, the Advocate General of Kerala has asked his brother KG Bhaskaran to resign from the post of Special Government Pleader.

Bhaskaran, who is alleged to have undervalued properties registered in his name, has gone on medical leave for now.

Srinijin, who had declared only assets worth Rs 25,000 in the affidavit filed in the 2006 Assembly elections (he was the Congress candidate from Njarackal,) now allegedly owns several prime properties, including a riverside plot of 2.5 acres at Annamanada in Thrissur.

He and his wife Sony have also said to have acquired a flat in the city, a plum office space near the High Court and 25 cents of land at Elamakkara (in the suburbs of Kochi) where the construction of a bungalow is in progress, according to reports.

Both Srinijin and Sony are practising advocates.
