New Delhi: Images of Professor H S Sabharwal being beaten to death — allegedly by ABVP activists — had shocked the conscience of the entire nation two years ago.
His son, Himanshi Sabharwal is still fighting for justice. Himanshu's plea before the Supreme Court for a CBI probe in his father's murder case has been turned down.
The court has only agreed for transferring the case out of Ujjain to Nagpur.
"I will go on a hunger strike if the case is not handed over to the CBI," says Himanshu.
The verdict immediately snowballed into a political face-off. The Congress used it as an opportunity to tarnish the BJP rule in Madhya Pradesh.
Congress Leader, Sajjan Singh Verma says, "This is a slap on the face of the state government."
The murder case of Professor Sabarwal has witnessed several twists and turns.
CNN-IBN had exposed how many of the key witnesses were turning hostile in the case — like Komal Singh Sengar, a peon at Professor Sabarwal's college.
This is what Sengar had said earlier: "Aap batiye, main kiska loon sahara? Kiske bharosa karke adalat mein kuch bolon? Pata bhi hoga to main kya boloon? ("You tell me whose help should I take. On whose assurance should I make a statement in court? Even if I know things, how am I supposed to say them?")
Even though the court has made it clear that this transfer of case in no way reflects on the judicial system in Madhya Pradesh, Congress is sure to cash in and make this an election issue.
