Mamata discriminating against Bihar: Locals

Patna: Bogies of the Patna-New Delhi Shramjivi Express were engulfed in flames on Monday after the train was attacked and set on fire by protesters at the Khusrupur Station near Patna. An hour later, the Danapur-Rajgir passenger train met the same fate as did the Danapur-Dharbhanga Intercity Express at the Fatuha station.

The protesters were angry that the new Railway Minister has reportedly cancelled several stops of the Shramjivi Express' in Bihar.

"After Mamata Benerjee became the new Railways Minister Bihar is facing discrimination and problems," said some of the protesters.

The decision to cancel the stops was taken by the East Central Railway three days ago, on the day Mamata Banerjee took over the ministry. Mamata has denied any knowledge of it.

"I don't believe in cast and regional politics. I believe in India. This is someone's mischief. I will inquire into this," she said.

The decision to cancel the stops has now been revoked, but the damage has been done.

CPRO East Central Railway, AK Chandra says, "The order had just been passed and it had not even been implemented. Even then there was such a fuss."

Bihar has been a pampered and privileged state as far as railways is concerned. For the last decade, politicians from Bihar have run the show in the Rail Bhawan - be it management guru Lalu Prasad, Nitish Kumar or Ram Vilash Paswan. But now, after Mamata Banerjee has taken over the baton, things may not remain the same for Bihar.

"Mamata Benerjee is very incapable. Laluji should be reinstated as the railway minister," said another protestor while a third one added, "Mamata Banerjee is targetting us. When Lalu was the minister, everything was running just fine."

But Lalu himself is backing the new minister. He says that she should not be blamed for the protests.

"Mamata Banerjee may not know this but this has got to be the work of some railway officers."

The situation now under control, but there is a fear that more moves to reschedule trains, could spark a Bihar versus Mamata war.
