New Delhi: A humiliated PT Usha broke down after she was not given proper accommodation at the National Athletics Meet in Bhopal.
The sprint queen, who was accompanying an athletics team as a coach, was reportedly made to share her room with five others.
When Usha asked for a better accommodation she was reportedly refused by the officials. As a result, Usha broke down into tears in front of the media.
“I have no clue where would I go now. I was invited for the event but then I am not being provided with a room. Mr Gill is here and I have three-four girls with me. The only problem is I have no clue where would we go,” a teary-eyed Usha said who is a multiple gold medalist at the Asian Games. She also nearly won bronze at the Olympics.
Regretting the incident, MP Industries Minister Kailash Vijay Wargia told CNN-IBN, “As soon I was intimated about the situation I came here and took stock of the situation. I have apologised to PT Usha for the inconvenience. We have asked for an enquiry. This is bad for the image for the player and the state.”
This incident comes a day after World Boxing Champion MC Mary Kom complained of sub-standard accommodation and food during National Boxing Championships.
The event comes as a huge shock to the nation which is preparing itself for a mega event like the Commonwealth Games.
Not a one-off case, such incidents have repeatedly shown that sportspersons need proper accommodation and facilities to better their achievements.
