Pune firing: Maharashtra police aimed to kill?

New Delhi: Did the Maharashtra police aim to kill during the Pune firing. A dramatic video of the farmers' protest in Pune that left three dead shows police with guns aimed at head height of protestors. The Maharashtra assembly was stalled on the issue on Thursday.

The video clearly shows how the police fired at head level and not in air as they should have. The farmers were protesting the acquisition of farm land for a water pipeline. The matter generated heat in the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday.

The police high-handedness in Maval area near Pune has once again shown the urban-rural divide over land acquisition. The Opposition is now demanding the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. the land had been acquired for the Pauna lake project meant to provide more water for the people of Pimpri-Chinchwad.
