Pune: There seems to be no let-up in cases of atrocities against women. A woman was allegedly abducted at Ahmednagar and kept confined at a brothel in Dhule for 48 hours. What's worse is that she also had to face brutality when she tried to lodge a complaint after escaping from the brothel.
The 18-year-old woman claims that she and her fiance were allegedly beaten up by the police on the suspicion that she was trying to register a false case. She claims that four persons, including a woman, waylaid her, gagged her and drugged her near a mall.
"The police were trying to tamper with my statement. They asked me the same questions repeatedly and beat me. I was telling the truth, but they said I was lying. The accused me of being part of a gang, and that my family was also involved," the victim said.
This happened while she was travelling with her fiance to Shirdi from Pune. The woman claims that she was allegedly beaten up by the brothel-keeper for refusing to enter the flesh trade.
No action has been taken by the police against the brothel-keepers yet. "The incident occurred in Ahmednagar. However, the Tofkhana police officers refused to register the girl's complaint. That's when we took up the matter," senior police official of Koregaon police station, Shivaji Kamble, said.
